THE BEST THINGS IN LIFE...

LOCATION: WAILEA IN MAUI, HAWAII

"YOU CAN BUY CHILDREN ANYTHING IN THE WORLD, BUT NOTHING WILL COMPARE TO THE MEMORIES YOU MAKE WITH THEM"

They say "The best things in life are the people we love, the places we've been and the memories we've made along the way" and I'd have to agree 1000%. In this family's case, it was a bit of all these things and more.

I could feel the excitement as soon as I heard both their voices on the line, asking my availability for a last-minute shoot. It was their first time to Maui, but more importantly, it was their 10 month old daughter Sophia's very first vacation of her brand-new life, so they really wanted to capture their new family in all of their warm, tropical bliss. Did I have the time? How could I not!

It had been a rain filled 6 days and counting and the chances for sunshine were few and far between...except we all scouted the reports and a decision was made. We're carrying on and running from the clouds to the southern most tip of Maui to wherever the sun is shining! So we did, and the morning couldn't have gotten any more beautiful. Luck? Maybe. Destiny? Absolutely.

Mahalo to this family for bringing their own rays of sunshine to Maui and sharing their adorable new family with me! Now I can only hope they come back yearly so I can see Sophia grow in the beauty she's destined to be <3

MEET ROXY...

LOCATION: MAKAWAO & UPCOUNTRY / MAUI, HAWAII

"OLD DOGS, LIKE OLD SHOES, ARE COMFORTABLE. THEY MIGHT BE A BIT OUT OF SHAPE AND A LITTLE WORN AROUND THE EDGES, BUT THEY FIT WELL"

Meet Roxy.

She's 17 years old (seriously), cute as a button, simple minded, devoted as can be, and has a huge (and very fragile) heart of gold. As you can imagine, photoshoots like these may be the first, but may also be the last, so emotions run high, the love runs deep and the memories last forever.

Luckily the universe was in our favor in more than one way on this day. We almost cancelled the shoot due to bad weather, but with the grace of living on a small island and VERY strong winds, the clouds parted in the afternoon, giving way to warm sunshine and blue skies.  On our way upcountry, we noticed a huge, breath-taking field full of Pincushion Protea flowers and we just had to pullover - it was so beautiful!!! The owner happened to be pulling up to the entrance on his tractor and was gracious enough to let us through and use his land for a bit (otherwise we may have hopped the fence because we just couldn't help ourselves ;-)).

Needless to say, after a few sneezes, frolics in the tall grass and tickles from the pincushions, Roxy was thoroughly enjoying herself. I'd even go as far to say she acted like a kid again the way she was running around and rolling in the grass. My heart melted moment after moment!

I feel SO honored to have been asked to capture the love between these two...it's 17 years strong and still growing <3 Mahalo Mahalo Mahalo

So cheers to you Roxy...you beautiful, tiny soul <3 I can't wait to see you again...
