FOR ART'S SAKE

"YOU AND I ARE MORE THAN FRIENDS. WE'RE LIKE A REALLY SMALL GANG"

Friendship isn't about who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you" and proved it.

You see, I have this friend Lauren whom I've known for 4 years now and counting, and she's literally at the top of the pile of wonderful people. Not because we're super close or share the most intimate life details with each other...or because we're neighbors (although that certainly helps). She's at the top because she's genuine. She's real. She's hilarious. And she carries an illegal amount of positivity that shouldn't be granted to any one single human on this planet. Did I mention she's tough? Because yea, she's immensely tough.

We've shared some memorable moments, both good and bad, and mostly spaced out here and there because let's face it, life gets in the way. But when we connect, it's like we never missed a beat. Life never gets in the way because we just keep living it and making space whenever we have it. And honestly, that's purely okay by me. She's worth hanging on to because she rocks the casbah and her laughter is immensely contagious. And it doesn't even end there...

Here are some snippets from one of our more recent memorable moments. The day that she tore her way through my overgrown hedges with a bag full of goodies to do a casual photo shoot "for arts sake"...

VITAMIN SEA | OAHU, HI

LOCATION: NORTH SHORE, OAHU HI

"HOME IS WHERE THE WAVES ARE"

From Laie to Haleiwa, Oahu's North Shore begged to be photographed day in and night out during my recent mini-vacation away from Maui.

Between days filled with frisbee, body surfing, long walks and ridge-line hikes, I found the time to escape to beaches where giant waves pounded the safely sheltered shore just feet away from where I was standing. It's hard to believe anyone could get this close without being pulled out to sea...

Feelings of tranquility and turbulence ebbed and flowed from one moment to the next during my time on Oahu - there was just too much to see & feel in so little time. Is it different from Maui? Absolutely. In every way! And that's why I find myself going back more and more through the years - to feel a different type of vibe...a different type of aloha that can only be found on the East & North Shore of Oahu. You'll see it by feeling it...trust me.

In the meantime, here are some moments that made the cut...
