Which do I choose...Sunrise or Sunset? 

Sunrise Sessions tend to be best within the hour after sunrise (between 6 - 7 am depending on the time of year), delivering the ever so popular pastel shades, calmer waters and empty beaches. Sunset Sessions are optimal about 45-60 minutes prior to sunset and tend to have a warmer golden glow with more romantic & brilliant colors in the skies. If you must know…Sunset is my favorite time to shoot ;-)

We’re pretty shy in front of the camera…will you pose us?

I’m always happy to make suggestions & give guidance as needed - but my ultimate goal is to capture your natural reaction to those suggestions as you “fall into” each moment with your loved one(s). I work hard to create a comfortable (and fun) environment so you can feel like you have the space to be yourselves and hopefully, forget I’m even there! Think of it as a typical day at the beach, just turned up a notch with nicer clothing! Some clients request a couple “traditional” posed portraits at the very beginning of their session, which I’m happy to do - but it’s my intention to break you out of that “norm” and instead, capture you interacting, reacting, loving and laughing with those you love. And rest assured, even if things start to feel chaotic with your little ones, I’ll still be capturing beautiful images and making the most from the interactions popping up around us. My mantra…”Let them be wild!”.

What rights do I have to the digital prints?

Clients are given the rights to all the personal usages of their digital images. This means you can print, share, email, etc. to all of your heart's desire! What you can't do is use them for more commercial purposes, such as selling them for a billboard or a t-shirt, or any other form of official publishing. I like to know where my images are and approve them, so if you'd like to send to a blog or wedding magazine, just give me a heads up and we will together!  I do however, retain the ownership & copyright to all images and the right to use them for promotional purposes, competition, professional review, marketing & social media campaigns, and so on. Further details can be found in the "Release" section of my Agreement. 

How long do your sessions last?

Because we shoot at Sunrise or Sunset, my sessions may last anywhere from 45-60 minutes (depending on session). The last thing I want is for any of my clients to feel pressured by time deadlines (although the sun tends to have a schedule of its own)! As I mentioned above, I do prefer to shoot 45 mins prior to Sunset and about 5 minutes after to get that amazing golden (and magical) lighting!

I love your work, but it’s a bit out of my price range…

Ask about my payment plans! You can start by putting down as little as $150 to hold your session date and we can then space out your payments in a way that is comfortable for you. As long as your session fee is covered prior to your session date, I would be more than happy to work with you on spacing out your payments in a way that works best for you & your finances :- )

Do you shoot weddings, extended family sessions, family reunions, or private corporate events?

I don’t, sorry! My focus is on small families/groups with 10 persons or less only. I prefer my work with clients remain on the smaller side of things, guaranteeing a more relaxed, intimate feel, where everyone knows everyone’s names and no moment (or person!) goes un-noticed ;-)

Do you travel? What are your travel fees?

I regularly travel and will happily travel anywhere, Island-wide + Worldwide!  All West Maui & Haleakala locations (Olowalu, Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Kapalua, Haleakala) have a $35 travel charge. Locations past Haiku will incur a travel fee of $150 (this includes Hana). For inter-island requests on Oahu & Big Island, a small fee of $300 (airfare + a rental car for the day). For Kauai requests, flights are a bit more limited in timing, so we’ll need to discuss overnight accommodations in addition to the above $300 rates. Either way, expenses will be thoroughly quoted beforehand, making all items transparent prior to booking.

What should we wear/bring? 

The most important rule is to BE COMFORTABLE! I love color and accessories, just keep the patterns to a minimum ;-) This goes for your kids too. If you or they are uncomfortable in their clothing, it will show in the photos. I like my sessions to be fun and have an element of freedom, so please dress your children in clothing you don’t mind them playing in. And that goes for you too! Once you decide to book with me, I’ll be sure to send along my “What to Wear” Style Guide to help you plan every detail possible.

How do you handle payment?

A non-refundable retainer of 25% is required to confirm your booking. The balance is due immediately after our shoot & before any editing is performed. When you book you'll receive an online invoice listing all the details, including an option to pay. For easy payment of your deposit & balance, all major credit cards are accepted. I also accept Cash and Venmo. 

What if we need to reschedule because someone became injured or sick prior to our session?

In the case that the date becomes an issue, a second option can be negotiated. Clients are allowed one reschedule per session. If Client wishes to move the date of the event, if available, Photographer will move the date and apply retainer to that date as mutually agreed. If your reschedule is approved, your booking fee will carry over onto your new date. After one reschedule, any additional reschedule request for the same session will incur a $75 fee. I understand that life happens. People get sick, and things go wrong. If you need to reschedule for any reason, please try to give me at least 48 hrs notice. If you happen to fall ill the day of your session, please call to reschedule. I work every day with all age groups and cannot risk passing on anything to my beloved clients. Your photos will look better if you are feeling well rested and at your best!

What happens if the weather is bad? Is there an option to reschedule? 

Cancellation or rescheduling due to weather conditions, is at the Photographers discretion. While weather here in Hawaii is ALWAYS changing, rest assure that even if the forecast calls for rain or there's a little overcast and/or scary looking clouds, these all make for beautiful light and stunning skies...so I try not to call off/reschedule a shoot any more than 1.5 - 2 hours prior to a session. If we are unable to avoid rescheduling due to inclement weather we will reschedule for the next available date & time. Please keep in mind that availability is limited. If it is down pouring and sideways rain that hinders our photo session, we can without a doubt reschedule. If you have a morning session, I’ll check in with you the night before. Evening? I’ll check in that morning/afternoon. The forecasts change by the minute here, so I ask all my clients to stay flexible, open minded, and trusting with my amazing weather reading abilities.  I like to stay in touch with my clients via text as much as possible, so you can be sure I won't leave you wondering what our next move is regardless of weather ;-) 

If we cancel our booking will we receive our retainer back? 

If you would like to cancel your session completely, for whatever reason, you will forfeit your retainer, as retainers are non-refundable. This covers any loss in the form of lost bookings to me. If you do not show up to your session or show up considerably late you may forfeit your session and all payments made. However if you decide to change the date and it is an agreeable date for me, I will happily apply it toward a new booking.

How long does it take before we receive our products and photographs?

Your Downloadable Online Gallery is guaranteed within 1 week of receiving payment of your final Invoice, which is delivered immediately after our session commences. I also offer various Rush Services for an additional fee…

Do you supply RAW files?

I don't, sorry. The RAW files aren't available for viewing or for purchase. The images selected for editing and final delivery reflect my very high standards and the rest aren't archived in my studio. I find the editing process just as important as the shooting and both combined are the end result I'll be proud to pass on to you. I do not cull to meet a certain number of delivered images, so every viable image is edited carefully and delivered with care. You will however receive high-res JPG files that you can re-print from as well as share online personally.

Do you provide all the images you shoot?

I never release unedited photos for viewing or for purchase. I personally review all of your images carefully, eliminating any obviously unusable ones. There are always those shots that are less than perfect, due to blinking, off colors or photos that are simply unflattering. Each session comes with a pre-determined range of images so I do my very best to give my clients the most outstanding images possible.  I only want to deliver the best! 

Do you edit all our photographs?

Yes, I do! Every image that you receive has been hand-edited, one at a time, without batching in bulk groups or mass-producing the results. My highly trained eye also often selects a few favorites for special attention above and beyond the individual image editing. All images are edited for color, lighting, cropping, and people/items removed from background. 

What if we want some of our photos edited further? 

My standard retouching of photos includes color correction, basic blemish correction, skin smoothing and minor liquifying of wardrobe and/or body. All Sessions include a single round of retouching of up to three (3) existing photo files. For any additional custom edits / retouching of photo files, or any edits / retouching outside the scope outlined above, I charge $65 per photo. An estimate will be provided to the Client based on the Client's requests. I will move forward with edits / retouching only after Client approves such an action based on the estimated fee.
