Starting the Day: Reading the Island
Before anything else, I’m checking what Maui is doing that day — the light, wind, clouds, tides, and which part of the island is cooperating.
You’ll usually hear from me early with updates like:
how our location’s conditions are if they aren’t optimal,
whether sunrise or sunset is going to hit right,
what backup spot we’ll use if the wind or weather changes,
what to bring so you’re not scrambling (snacks, wipes, layers, etc.).
It’s part communication, part intuition, part living on an island that changes its mood every thirty minutes.
Arriving & Connecting
When we meet at our location, we ease into things. I’m not the photographer who pulls out the camera before I’ve even learned your kid’s name or seen how you and your partner interact.
Here’s what I’m tuning into right away:
your kids’ energy (shy, silly, cautious, wild),
your comfort level in front of the camera,
how you naturally connect as a couple,
how mama-to-be is feeling physically and emotionally.
And yes — I get down at kid level immediately! They open up faster when someone meets them eye-to-eye instead of towering above them with a lens.
During the Session: Guidance Without Pressure
This is where everything blends together — directing, observing, adjusting, and letting the real moments come through.
With Families
My role is part photographer, part kid-whisperer. I use:
simple games,
“jobs” for your little one to feel involved,
movement-based prompts,
quick shifts when attention spans fade.
And if someone melts down? It’s fine. I work around it instead of fighting it.
With Couples
I watch how you naturally fall into each other’s space. Then I guide you with prompts that feel organic:
walking together,

interacting instead of posing.

With Maternity Sessions
The pace slows down. I’m paying attention to:
footing on uneven sand,
